For the performance during the Fleadh Cheoil festival in Sligo 2014, Sabona put on a show with an original song written by Mabel Chah, Stephanie Poirier , Sinead Dolan and Inatability. The song was produced by Jason Casey and Ace Adeola. The song title “I love you” which is made up of three verses saying “i love you” in as many languages as could be put in a 3:30mins song has become qute a hit in the community especially among children as you could hear them at their youth centers and schools singing along.
In 2015, after the brilliant performance Sabona put up at the Fleadh Cheoil, The festival directors called the group up again to perform on its main stage at the gig rig on Stephen’s street car park. SABONA put up a 30 minutes performance with a couple of solo performances from its members of original songs and the singing of the Irish National Anthem which was well acclaimed by the crowd of over 3000 people. (SABONA during rehearsals).
After the festivities, Sabona starts its own community course funded by the ETB to teach song and dance with music styles from different cultures. During the course, a song is composed by participants and a dance choreographed and after the course, a tour to care centers and residences is carried out. The feed back from the community is great and the music branch of SABONA keeps growing from strength to strength as the project gets refunded to carry out the course again in 2016. At the Avalon Center
With great assistance from the Northside resource center Forthill, SABONA has a base and an office where it could be contacted. Rehearsals are mostly held in the community center on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm.
Dates for the SABONA song and dance course will be announced, watch this space for follow up.
